  • ArtikPix and ArtikPix - Full 3.1.3 are now available on the App Store! Check out what's new: • Reordering control of sound positions • Bug fixes Version 3.1.3 includes a feature to reorder sound positions, which was similarly available prior to version 3.0 of ArtikPix; however, in version 3.1.3, the reordering feature is configured for each student in the app. So, it's possible for example to run an activity in which one student's cards are reordered, and another student's cards are the default order. To reorder, go to the Sound Positions screen, then turn OFF Shuffle, and move desired sound positions via the reorder control (three horizontal lines stacked). ArtikPix version 3.1.3 also includes bug fixes, such as a fix for a crash in iOS 11 that occurred when searching students (if [...]

  • ArtikPix and ArtikPix - Full 3.1.2 are now available on the App Store! Check out what's new: • Enhancements for ending sessions • Bug fixes Version 3.1.2 includes a way to quickly end a session. For example, if tallies were not scored during a new session, tapping the End button will result in the app returning to the Activities screen. The new version of ArtikPix also includes bug fixes, such as a fix for a crash in iOS 11 that occurred when tapping YES to add a video to the camera roll.

  • In response to user feedback, the prompted tallies in ArtikPix and ArtikPix - Full 3.1.1 now have an updated appearance and are one of three tally configurations (as seen in the post’s image with three screenshots). The star-smile button is correct with prompting; the smile button is correct; the frown button is incorrect; and the star-frown button is incorrect with prompting. Because a fair number of users prefer the simple correct and incorrect tallies, it is now the default configuration (middle screenshot); however, you can change the configuration via the Options to hide all tallies (left screenshot), or to show the prompted tallies (right screenshot). Here’s how to access the three tally configurations: Left screenshot - hide all tallies (More > Options > Hide All Tallie[...]

  • 4 years. It has been 4 years since the last ArtikPix update! Why did it take that long? Well, several events occurred in the last 4 years, leading me down a long road of learning experiences that helped me finally complete the update now. 2 years ago, I had developers try to update the app. It was going to be a minor update to fix some appearance issues and glitches, but other significant features broke in the app. Additionally, the app really needed a major update that required more experience on my behalf. I started thinking how it could be better if I had the expertise to code my own apps. Additional events - occurring within my life in the last 4 years - led to this major ArtikPix update. One big event in my life was having children. My wife and I now have two energetic sons, Lev[...]

  • Percentally Pro is back with version 2! In full disclosure, this means there's a separate app for the 2nd version of Percentally Pro. You might be asking yourself why is that. Well, the 1st version included dependencies on the iOS calendar and iCloud integration, both of which turned out to be very detrimental. First of all, users had to agree to let the app access their calendar in order to schedule sessions in Percentally Pro. Then, data in the app was not reliably transferred across devices by iCloud. Finally, and worst of all, users were losing student data. As a result, we had to build a separate app that removed the destructive dependencies. We built our own scheduling system, and we implemented local storage to store data in the app. Through testing, we found the 2nd version to be a[...]

  • Percentally Pro 2 is coming soon! Before it arrives, check out this video preview showing the iPad version. In the video, you’ll see how to collect data during a session, and how to export a student’s data for a select range of dates. Exporting data for a range of dates is very exciting, as it greatly improves the ability to report student progress quarterly and annually.

  • After you say your hellos and talk about summer at the beginning of the school year, it’s time to work. However, it’s not feasible to start providing services or working on IEPs before organizing the students on your caseload. For me, I get organized initially by completing three templates: Caseload List, Speech Schedule, and IEP Due Dates. I created the templates for Caseload List, Schedule, and IEP Due Dates in Pages on my Mac. Then, I replaced the sample content with my students’ information. This school year, I exported the templates to Word, so my colleagues without Pages could use them. You will find the templates below to download and use. Feel free to modify the templates however you see fit for non-commercial use. If you share the templates, I just ask that you please provide c[...]

  • As in years past, I am presenting full-day sessions on the topic of iPads for children with special needs. After working with the same slideshow style for the last year or so, I decided to refresh the design of my slides. I wanted something that looked like the current style of iOS. So, I included transparent rectangles for titles, tables for lists, and circles for sections, among other features. I also updated the content of my slides to be current. The slideshow covers the latest information regarding iPads for children with special needs. iOS 8 and accessibility are highlighted as well as free, paid, and specialized apps that span reading, writing, math, communication, social skills, organization, and more. Several implementation ideas are provided with best practices to effectively [...]

  • As part of our next update for ArtikPix Levels, we are including a sound development chart. The information in the chart is adapted from the speech sound developmental milestones mentioned in "When are Speech Sounds Learned?" JSHD, 37, (February 1972) by Eric Sander. Our chart will be included on the Information screen accessed via the home screen of ArtikPix Levels. Stay tuned to our blog to see when the ArtikPix Levels update is available. In the meantime, you can check out our sound development chart below. Tap on the image to view it full size.
