As part of our next update for ArtikPix Levels, we are including a sound development chart. The information in the chart is adapted from the speech sound developmental milestones mentioned in "When are Speech Sounds Learned?" JSHD, 37, (February 1972) by Eric Sander. Our chart will be included on the Information screen accessed via the home screen of ArtikPix Levels. Stay tuned to our blog to see when the ArtikPix Levels update is available. Last year around this time, I posted about Computer Science Education Week. In the post, I mentioned the goal was for 10 million individuals to participate in the hour of code. That goal was easily surpassed, and I see now on the Computer Science Education Week website that nearly 50 million individuals have participated! This year, the founder of the project hopes to reach 100 million, which you can be a part of even if you don't have any experience with computer programming. Just about anyone can easily use one of the free interactive resources that allow you to drag and drop blocks to make a character move. With OS X Yosemite and iOS 8, Apple has provided developers an opportunity to create app preview videos. The videos are optional, but Apple is encouraging developers to include them with their apps on the App Store. The video previews have to be 15 to 30 seconds in duration, and they can be used to highlight features in an app. Additionally, each iOS app can only have one app preview video. We decided to create app preview videos for both versions of our new articulation app, ArtikPix Levels. We have wanted to revamp the original Percentally app (released in 2009) for sometime now. When we had a chance to work on it, we thought Percentally could be greatly improved with several new features. Learning to code has become increasingly popular for students in schools. It's not a surprise as organizations like code.org are providing stats and resources so students can take advantage of a big career opportunity. However, educators are not always equipped to teach students computer programming. And, even though there are currently more resources than ever to learn coding, the resources can be difficult to understand and/or do not relate to creating apps for mobile devices.
